Funmilola’s Biography
Funmilayo Tejumola is an emerging contemporary visual artist from Nigeria who specializes in Figurative African Art. Born in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, she is a native of Esie, the home of the largest collection of soapstone images in the world.
As a child of art, she has embraced the pseudonym, Demo Àjọkẹ́, a candid reflection of her essence and power as an artist. She expresses being a child of art at the heart of the community. This has constantly been her path to growth, both as a member of her community and as an artist, and reflects this in her artistic voice.
She had her training at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, before proceeding to the University of Lagos, to bag her Master’s Degree in African and Diaspora Studies. These concentrations have helped her to direct her focus on Africa, the motherland, and even still, on womanhood in Africa.
She believes in the power of the feminine, particularly the African feminine.
